Short Biography

Laurent Gajny is an applied mathematician with a bachelor’s and master’s degree from Lille University of Science and Technology. He holds a PhD in automatic control from the Arts et Metiers Institute of Technology. For this work on the mathematical aspects of geometric path planning for industrial robots, he was awarded the Pierre Bézier Doctoral Prize. After a postdoctoral fellowship at the Institut de Biomécanique Humaine Georges Charpak (Arts et Métiers Institute of Technology) on automatic 3D bone reconstruction from biplanar radiographs, he was recruited as an assistant professor and then as an associate professor at the same institution in 2018. His current research interests include computer vision methods applied to medical image analysis and markerless motion capture. For this work, he was awarded the young researcher award of the Société de Biomécanique in 2023. He published 29 scientific articles in international journals and cosupervised 8 PhD students and 24 Msc students. He is also co-chair of the Bioimaging track of the BME Paris Master’s program (Biomedical Engineering in Paris).
