Full professor at ESPCI Paris-Université PSL, where he teaches physiology to 2nd year engineering students, organizes and teaches part of two PSL modules, and develops a research activity in the Brain Plasticity Unit. He graduated in physics from Ecole Normale Supérieure (Paris) in 1982. He then switched to biology through an intensive course in bacteriology at the Institut Pasteur (Paris), where in 1990 he obtained a PhD in neurobiology (Université P. & M. Curie) under the supervision of Pr J.-P. Changeux. He worked on Drosophila circadian clocks as CNRS scientist in Gif-sur-Yvette from 1996 to 2011.
His main research project after arriving at ESPCI Paris dealt with the influence of circadian clocks on brain aging and neurodegeneration in Drosophila. He is now interested in applying neuroscience research to enhance teaching and learning. He has also been active as science popularizer and writer, authoring two books, « Biologie de la mort » with F. Revah (translated to English, Spanish and Japanese), and « Les horloges du vivant », both published by éd. Odile Jacob.
