BME Seminars - Sebastien LAPORTE

Seminar announcement flyer

For our last OpenYourMind seminar of the year 2017, we have the great pleasure to announce that the talk will be given by Sebastien LAPORTE, Full Professor et Arts et Métiers ParisTech - Institut de Biomécanique Humaine Georges Charpak and co-head of the BME-Paris Master Program. The conference will take place between 1:30 pm and 3 pm at Arts et Métiers ParisTech (151 boulevard de l’Hôpital, 75013 Paris) on Friday December 15 2017 and will be held in the lecture theatre A. The seminar topic will be “Discrete Element Method in Biomechanics”.

Abstract :

Biomechanical models extensively used the finite element methods (FEM) to compute the complex mechanical behavior of the living tissues. However, FEM could be limited when multi-scale structure behavior is of interest and, also, when dealing with rupture and damage. This presentation then focusses on the use of discrete element methods (DEM) in the field of biomechanics. The agenda of the presentation is: 1) a short presentation of the DEM, 2) the application of the DEM to model the rupture of the musculotendinous complex, 3) an opening on the mechanical behavior of cancellous bone.
