BME Seminars - Jean-Michel MOREL

Seminar announcement flyer

This week’s OpenYourMind seminar will be given by Jean-Michel MOREL, Professor at the Ecole Normale Supérieure Paris-Saclay at the CMLA (Centre de Mathématiques et de leurs applications). The seminar will be held this Friday 08/12/2017 in amphi Bezier at ENSAM ParisTech (151, Boulevard de l’Hopital, 75013 Paris) between 1:30 pm and 3 pm. The seminar topic will be “Automatic Image Analysis and its applications.”.

The images, which were almost always printed on paper or on film fifty years ago, became digital in thirty years, and have proliferated because of connected digital cameras. These images are taken by individuals, but also by professionals in all sectors of science and technology. It is now only a matter of analyzing them automatically, because a visual and manual analysis has become impossible. In this lecture I will review progress in automatic image analysis, a subject that brings us back to the older, unresolved mystery of the definition of visual perception. I will analyze several examples of automatic analysis techniques inspired by the theory of perception, such as the automatic analysis of perspective in an image, the detection of anomalies and falsifications, the recognition of fingerprints, the extraction vascular network in medical imaging, etc.
