This week's seminar will be given by Damien Subit, Senior Researcher and Marie Curie Fellow at the LBM - Institut de Biomécanique Humaine Georges Charpak, ENSAM and visiting Research Professor at the Center for Applied Biomechanics, University of Virginia (USA). The seminar topic will be “Mobility and safety for road users: a multi-scale approach for injury prevention”.

The seminar will be held in Amphi Fournel, Arts et Métiers ParisTech (151 boulevard de l’Hôpital, 75013 Paris) between 1:30 pm and 3 pm on Friday, October 10th.

Abstract:

Transportation is the foundation for the most basic human activities, and the number of people using public roads worldwide keeps increasing. As a result, traffic related injuries and fatalities have also increased which reveals the need for the development of protective strategies to keep the roads safe. The protection of road users relies on the design of effective regulations (e.g. speed limit, safety belt use) and countermeasures (e.g. airbag, ABS) that contribute to prevent or mitigate injuries. This talk will present some of the research performed to characterize the response of the human body to an impact and understand the injury mechanisms commonly seen in road accidents. Epidemiology studies, in-laboratory tests and computational analysis will be presented to illustrate how in-vehicle safety systems are designed.
